What is vernix?

Who knows what vernix caseosa is or you may have heard of it simply referred to as vernix? 🙋🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The white deposit on this little newborn is vernix and your baby will be born with this on his/her body too. Don’t wipe it away, it’s the best moisturiser for the baby’s skin. Let it there to soak in and baby will reap the benefits. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Breast-feeding helps boost a baby's immune system, but this isn't the only option. The vernix caseosa can also protect a newborn from infections after birth. This is because the coating contains antioxidants, as well as anti-infection and anti-inflammatory properties.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Who knew eh! Nature is truly wonderful, it’s amazing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📸 this wonderful picture was taken by @darianclousephoto
